About the Sydney Silverbacks
The Sydney Silverbacks (also known as Harbour City Wrestling Club) is a gay/lesbian/straight-friendly not-for-profit community sporting club based in Sydney, Australia. Founded in 1993, the club has since become incorporated and now runs weekly wrestling training nights, beginner workshops, regular intra-club tournaments and participates in international competitions including the Gay Games, and Don Jung Tournament in San Francisco.
Our club trains in Freestyle wrestling (a style that allows moves above and below the waist), and incorporates moves from Roman-Greco wrestling (a style that allows moves above the waist only).
Wrestling is a great way to get fit while having fun. The sport incorporates full body movements to build strength, fitness, and explosive movement. Wrestling can also be seen as a non-violent self-defence type training that builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
Wrestling is a year-round sport. The club runs weekly training on Friday nights at Boxing Works Gym, 83-97 Darlinghurst Rd Kings Cross , NSW. Training nights are suitable for all levels of wrestling: from beginners to experienced. Spectators are also welcome.

Mardi Gras 2014 – TV Coverage
The guys did us all proud speaking candidly in a special segment aired during the Sydney Mardi Gras 2014 TV coverage.
Don Jung Memorial Cup – San Francisco 2015
The club have close ties to the gay wrestling clubs in the USA, which gives us the opportunity to compete on a world stage. Three wrestlers went to San Francisco to compete in 2011 Don Jung Memorial Cup, and thanks to lots of hard work fundraising by the whole club, wrestlers have competed in the 2012 and 2013 Cup. Club members would like to thank all our supporters for their help. Club members are now looking forward to next years event. The Cup is named after Don Jung, who was the founder of the Golden Gate Wrestling Club in San Francisco and was pivotal to the success of the first Gay Games in 1982. Wrestling is the only sport to be officially sanctioned in every subsequent Gay Games.
10th Gay Games – Paris 2018
Now is the perfect time to take up wrestling so that you can be prepared to represent Australia at the 10th Gay Games in Paris France in 2018. The Club has had medal winners at the last few Gay Games and aims to send an even stronger team in 2018! If you would be interested in joining the team or helping in fundraising to send the team to Paris, please speak to someone at the club or send us an email.
