to Harbour City Wrestling Club Website
The club runs weekly training every Friday night at The Boxing Works, 23 Pelican Street, Darlinghurst, NSW, 2010, with an accredited wrestling coach. Training nights are suitable for wrestlers of all levels - novices to experienced. Spectators are also welcome. For further information about how you can join us at training click here. Harbour City Wrestling Club is a gay/gay friendly not-for-profit group learning amateur Olympic Freestyle Wrestling in Sydney. Established in 1993, Harbour City Wrestling Club is currently the only gay focused wrestling group in Australia. Our club trains in Freestyle wrestling (a style that allows moves above and below the waist), and incorporates moves from Roman-Greco Wrestling (a style that allows moves only above the waist).
Wrestling is a great way to get fit while having fun. The sport incorporates full body movements to build strength, fitness, and explosive movement. This is accomplished via sport specific warm-up sessions and technique building training sessions. Additionally, wrestling can be seen as a non-violent self-defence type training that builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
Over the years, club members have participated in many wrestling tournaments both locally and overseas on an international stage. Three club members recently participated in the Gay Games in Cologne 2010. We were
thrilled to see all three on the podium. The club is currently working towards participating in the Wrestlers Without Borders Cup III in San Francisco in September 2012, and as always, working towards the next Gay Games this time in Cleveland USA in 2014. The club is always looking for new members to give wrestling a go, and you never know; it might be you jetting off to participate in the next Gay Games...
